National Prayer Ministry

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

National Prayer Ministry encourages all Christians to pray for our nation. Many of us believe in the importance of prayer, which is exhibited by our desire to pray for ourselves and our families and friends. But few find the time or see the need to pray for our nation and for God’s presence in the events and activities shaping our world. At this time in our history, more than ever before, we see the need for God’s guidance and intervention in the affairs of the nation.

The trend in our society and government toward greater secularism and socialism, is a concern and requires that we look beyond ourselves and seek to understand the role of today’s church in these matters – primarily to pray and seek Him, His wisdom and counsel. The foundation of our ministry is inspired by the writings of the Apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 2:1-8,

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Where unto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting

Jay Stapleton, a local pastor in the Washington DC area, provides daily commentary for National Prayer Ministry. He is supported by a team of men and women who believe in the power of prayer to meet the needs of our nation.
